On the evening of May 18, a celebration for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China officially kicked off at the Guangdong Cantonese Opera Art Center in Guangzhou, with "The Story of Returning Gold" as an opening Cantonese Opera. The event commencing now and to October, features 100 excellent performances selected from across the province.

The events are mainly divided into three sections, including 50 performances of high-quality performing arts, special shows by famous Cantonese Opera artists and an innovative drama named "Beacon-Fire Academy".

A total of 34 performances of high-quality performing arts will be staged in Guangzhou, 21 in their birthplace cities, and 5 in both Guangzhou and their original cities.

Renowned stage artists as well as young and middle-aged artists in the fields of opera, music and dance in Guangdong will be invited to give a personal show.

A newly created drama called "Beacon-Fire Academy" will be performed in Guangzhou and several former temporary sites of South China's universities in northern Guangdong.

Government subsidies have led to some hefty discounts on ticket prices, with cheap tickets accounting for over 50% of the total number of tickets. In addition, if you wish, you even don't have to leave the comfort of your couch to watch these fascinating shows, because Guangdong is bringing them to you via live-streaming platforms such as the Xinghai live stream platform (星海直播, pinyin: xing hai zhi bo) and China Mobile's "粤享 5G" (pinyin: yue xiang 5G).

The celebration is co-hosted by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province and the Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, under the guidance of the province's publicity department.
